Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service’s (MAWWFRS) new website has recently won in the ‘Community Public Service’ category in the Web Excellence Awards.
The Web Excellence Awards is committed to promoting excellence on the web and setting high standards by recognizing digital creativity and innovation. The winners of the Web Excellence Awards are selected through a meticulous evaluation process, which is led by experts from diverse backgrounds, ensuring a fair assessment of multiple criteria including creativity, functionality, innovation and overall impact.
Launched in early July 2024, MAWWFRS’s website was designed and built by Connect Internet Solutions, following a competitive tender process. With a focus on accessibility and an improved user experience, MAWWFRS’s website is the result of months of development and testing.

MAWWFRS’s new website has a suite of embedded assistive technology and tools to improve its accessibility, which includes a text-to-speech function, allowing users to have onscreen text read aloud. Users can also be able to change colours, contrast levels and fonts, zoom in without the text spilling off the screen, navigate most of the website using speech recognition software and more.
