Firefighters from across the globe gathered in Watford on the 26th and 27th of July for the British Firefighter Challenge 2025 - an annual sporting event that pushes firefighters to their physical and mental limits, entertains spectators, and raises vital funds for charities supporting emergency services.

Representing Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, our Firefighter Challenge team - Dominic Norcross, Tim Frost, Morgan Lewis, Luke Fisher, Lee Rees, Haydn Ralph, James Sheen, and James Johnson took on the grueling 8-stage course with determination, grit, and team spirit. All team members demonstrated exceptional fitness, skill, and determination of our firefighters across individual and team events.

The course tested every aspect of operational fitness, including hose drags, stair climbs in full kit, casualty rescues, and more! All under the pressure of competition and the summer heat. Our team not only completed the challenge but also brought home some fantastic results:

James Sheen secured 3rd place in his age category, a testament to his strength and endurance.

The relay team involving Lee Rees, Haydn Ralph, James Sheen, and James Johnson earned 3rd place in the British Male Relay, showcasing outstanding teamwork and coordination.

James S, Tim Frost and James J achieved Silver in the Fastest Overall British Fire Service category, a remarkable accomplishment that highlights the elite level of fitness and performance within the team.

All team members placed high on the overall leader board, with several exceptionally fast times that turned heads and earned widespread respect and admiration from fellow competitors and event organisers alike. The team’s performance left a lasting impression, with many competitors praising their speed, strength, and sportsmanship.

Dominic Norcorss said:

“It was an honour to compete alongside such a committed and inspiring group of firefighters. The event was tough, but the camaraderie and support from everyone involved made it an unforgettable experience. We’re proud to have represented our Service and to have raised awareness for such an important cause.”

A huge thank you goes out to everyone who supported the team from colleagues and families to the wider community. Let’s continue to celebrate the strength, resilience, and unity that define our fire service.
