Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service has a busy calendar of community engagement events throughout the year.

 



The Welsh Firefighter Challenge is a regional sporting event run alongside The British Firefighter Challenge. It is for both serving and retired firefighters from all over the world. The aims of this event are to raise much needed funds for the Fire Fighters Charity and also to raise awareness within the communities in which we serve.

Come and visit us at one of our Open Days across Mid and West Wales! Interactive fun for all, as you step inside the shoes of a firefighter as you explore the various activities and demonstrations planned for the day. Here is your chance to witness the incredible work of our local heroes and get an insight into the world of firefighting.

Car Washes







Does your car need a clean? We're here to help! For a charitable donation only, we will get your car gleaming at one of our Car Washes. Money raised will go towards the Fire Fighters Charity and other local charities chosen by the designated Fire Station.




Experience and Recruitment Days

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service will be holding a Firefighter Experience Day at Llanfyllin Fire Station on Saturday, May 31st, from 10am until 2pm.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service is responsible for providing emergency response cover to nearly 12,000 square kilometers - almost two-thirds of Wales. On-Call Firefighters are an essential part of our Service and your community - 75% of our Fire Stations are crewed entirely by On-Call Firefighters.

If you've ever considered becoming a Firefighter, attending one of our Experience Days is a great way of helping you make an informed decision before applying.

During the session, you'll have the opportunity to try on the firefighting kit, learn how to assemble equipment and take part in a practical exercise. The Llanfyllin Fire Station crew will also be on hand to answer any questions and give an insight into life as a Firefighter.

Our Firefighter Experience Day will include:

  • an overview the role of a modern-day firefighter
  • trying on the firefighting kit and equipment
  • the various aspects of the recruitment process
  • the importance of fitness and maintaining fitness
  • the various types of equipment and PPE
  • career pathways and role maps

On-Call Firefighter Recruitment Open Day and Pont-iets Fire Station

Join the On-Call Firefighters at Pont-iets Fire Station on Saturday, May 24th, to learn more about the role of an On-Call Firefighter and the recruitment opportunities as part of our new, updated On-Call Crewing System.

Our new-look On-Call Crewing System offers:

  • Flexible commitment: You can serve your community while maintaining another job, lifestyle or work-life balance.
  • Paid compensation: Earn money for training, drills and call-outs, plus an annual retainer fee
  • Personal development: Gain valuable skills in emergency response and access professional training and certifications

On-Call Firefighters are an essential part of our Service and your community.

Across Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service (MAWWFRS), 75% of our Fire Stations are crewed entirely by On-Call Firefighters.  They protect our small towns and rural communities.
