Request to Return to Employment (On-Call Only)

The option of “returning to employment” can be offered when an employee has voluntarily terminated their On Call Contract with MAWWFRS and requests a return to employment within four years of their last recorded day of duty. This facility is only available to employees looking to return to the role of a firefighter. Although personnel who had previously held the role of a Crew or Watch Manager are eligible to apply, their return can only be to the role of a firefighter.

Support Staff



Community Safety Practitioner 

Community Safety Department

Grade 5 - £28,624 - £30,060

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service is seeking applications from individuals for a permanent and temporary Community Safety Practitioner within the Community Safety Department.

The Role

The post holder will carry out a wide range of community safety initiatives in line with the Service’s strategy. To generate and deliver Safe and Well Visits and provide effective administration of Community safety processes to the community safety team and support wider Community Safety Partnership working. This role will be based within the respective Division; however, there may also be a requirement to support activities in other Divisional areas.

This is a full-time post working 37 hours per week with flexible hours in line with the Service’s flexi-time scheme.

Deputy Safeguarding and Volunteer Officer 

Community Safety Department, based at Service Headquarters, Carmarthen

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service is seeking applications from individuals for the role of temporary Deputy Safeguarding and Volunteer Officer within the Community Safety department based at Service Headquarters, Carmarthen.
This is a temporary post until 31 March 2026.

The Role
The successful post holder will be responsible for progressing and enhancing the existing volunteering arrangements and co-ordinating a broad network of community volunteers across Mid and West Wales with the aim of helping our communities lead safer and healthier lives. Volunteering opportunities will be explored across all areas of service delivery and support departments. 

The post holder will manage the activities of volunteers who will support community safety and wider Service activities across all Directorates.  The role involves generating and delivering Safe and Well Visits and a wide range of Community Safety activities in line with MAWWFRS strategy.  

Furthermore, the post holder will be based within the Community Safety department and provide resilience for Safeguarding and also support Home Safety and Partnership activities.   

This post is full-time, working 37 hours per week with flexible hours in line with the Service’s flexi-time scheme.

Community Safety Coordinator 

Community Safety Department, based within the Llandrindod Wells Hub

Grade 6 - £31,067-£32,654

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service is seeking applications from individuals for the role of permanent Community Safety Coordinator within the Community Safety department based in Llandrindod Wells Hub.

The Role
The post holder will act as a Community Safety Practitioner with additional responsibilities of providing Quality Assurance, Training, Administration, Partnership support within Divisional Community Safety Teams. To support community safety and operational personnel by providing advice and training in relation to the delivery of community safety activities.

Additionally, manage and ensure maintenance of community safety equipment allocated to their respective Division, and ensuring that the relevant Health and Safety provisions and Service Orders governing the use of these items are met.

This post is full-time, working 37 hours per week with flexible hours in line with the Service’s flexi-time scheme.

Operational Support Officer

Information and Communications Technology Department, based at Service Headquarters, Carmarthen

Grade 8 - £37,280 - £39,142

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service is seeking applications from individuals for the role of Operational Support Officer within the ICT Department based at Service Headquarters, Carmarthen.

The Role
The above vacancy exists for a suitably qualified and experienced candidate to lead, manage, develop and support the deployment and running of critical emergency service communication devices, systems and infrastructure.

This role will represent the Service at industry events, contacts with suppliers and meetings with other fire and emergency services. The role is also the ICT lead for Mid and West Wales Fire at our joint control room. Some work may require enhanced security clearance. 

The post is 37 hours per week (Monday-Friday) with flexible working, and is based at Service Headquarters, Carmarthen. It may require some infrequent occasional travel and overnight stays and also may be required to provide on-call support on a rota basis out of normal working hours (with additional pay).

Facilities and Compliance Manager

Estates Department, Based at Service Headquarters, Carmarthen

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service is seeking applications from individuals for the role of Facilities and Compliance Manager within the Estates Department based at Service Headquarters, Carmarthen. This is a full-time permanent role.

The Role
The successful candidate will act as the Competent Person ensuring the Estate complies with all current legislation relating to facilities management and compliance. They will manage the facilities function of the Service, to include the procurement, evaluation, contract management and administration of the services provided.  

The role will involve promoting and participating in achieving the most effective and economic use of the Service premises, facilities, plant, equipment and materials, maintaining the highest standard of operational efficiency and delivery and ensuring that the Service has the most safe and suitable working environment for its employees and their activities. They will also manage the day-to-day work of contractors delivering servicing, maintenance and associated remedials.

Role Description:
We need your help to shape the services we provide! Public participation is at the heart of positive change, and your insights and opinions matter. Your contributions can help drive positive change in the community, help us to plan for future activity, improve public safety and reduce the severity of incidents we attend.

The Community Ambassador will play a pivotal role in helping to shape the services we provide and assist with building a positive and supportive environment within our communities. You will act as a liaison between the Service and community members, helping to communicate important information, promote community engagement and represent the views of the communities we serve.

If you’re a representative of a local organisation, business, community group, or a member of the community, and would like to assist in helping to shape the future of Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, we would love to have you involved!

The role is on a voluntary basis.   

Commitment required
As much or as little time as you can commit. Ideally, we would like to hear from people who can commit a few hours per quarter (this will fluctuate on a quarterly basis, depending on the task/initiative) working on projects for the Service, attending meetings and events where required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain relationships with community members, local organisations and stakeholders.
  • Assist in designing and implementing initiatives that address community needs and interests.
  • Attend meetings and participate in discussions and consultations on key topics.

Joint Fire Control



Firefighter (Control)

Joint Service Control, Bridgend

Salary: £28,865 - £36,937

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service is seeking applications from individuals for the role of Firefighter (Control) within the Service Control Room, based at Joint Fire Control, Bridgend.

The Role
Individuals should possess keyboard skills to operate a computerised command / control and mobilisation system within the Control Room.

The hours of duty will be 42 hours per week, consisting of 2 day shifts and 2 night shifts. The successful applicants will be required to complete an initial training course prior to commencing the above shift pattern.

Please note that you will be required to serve in the role for a minimum of two years and be deemed competent before you will be eligible to apply for a Wholetime Firefighter Vacancy within Mid and West Wales Fire Service.
