We are looking for our next Chief Fire Officer/Chief Executive Officer to have a demonstrable track record of strong and inclusive leadership with an ability to build on our existing achievements. Request to Return to Employment (On-Call Only)

The option of “returning to employment” can be offered when an employee has voluntarily terminated their On Call Contract with MAWWFRS and requests a return to employment within four years of their last recorded day of duty. This facility is only available to employees looking to return to the role of a firefighter. Although personnel who had previously held the role of a Crew or Watch Manager are eligible to apply, their return can only be to the role of a firefighter.

Support Staff



Youth Practitioner

Community Safety Department, based at the Aberystwyth Hub

Grade 6 - £32,061 - £33,699

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service are seeking applications from individuals for a permanent position for the role of Youth Practitioner within the Community Safety Department based at Aberystwyth Hub.

The Role
You will hold an appropriate qualification which will include NVQ Level 3 / Diploma or equivalent, good understanding of youth development schemes and or practices and be able to speak and engage effectively in front of an audience.

You will be expected to have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal and can adapt your delivery style to suit the needs of the audience. Classroom management skills are essential, as is an excellent grasp of software packages such as Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint and Word and a willingness to develop your IT skills further through training and development opportunities.

We are looking for a reliable youth practitioner with excellent timekeeping, and the capability to manage own workload and prioritize tasks. Working within the community safety department you will be expected to demonstrate the services core values of integrity, trustworthiness, promote cultural inclusion and have self-awareness of your own impact on others.

You will be a creative thinker, willing to explore new ideas on how best to create and deliver high quality resources for young people. You will understand the importance of delivering youth schemes using trauma informed practices.

You will pay attention to detail, are organized and can complete tasks within set timescales. You will take a proactive approach to increasing your skills and knowledge by showing a commitment to CDP and will keep abreast of MAWWFRS’s organisational aims and objectives, and any developments to youth initiatives and relevant governmental legislation.

Support and Implementation Officer

Community Risk Management Planning (CRMP) Department, based at Service Headquarters, Carmarthen

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service is seeking applications from individuals for the role of permanent Community Risk Management Planning (CRMP) Support and Implementation Officer within the CRMP Department based at Service Headquarters, Carmarthen.

The Role
The post holder will play a key role in supporting the development and delivery of CRMP workstreams aligned with the Service’s CRMP 2040 objectives.  The role provides administrative, planning, and engagement support across CRMP and CCBD departments, ensuring effective coordination, communication, and performance monitoring.

The role includes administrative tasks, including coordinating diaries, meetings (internally and externally) and workload; and managing procurement activities.

This is a full-time post working 37 hours per week with flexible hours in line with the Service’s flexi-time scheme.

Role Description:
We need your help to shape the services we provide! Public participation is at the heart of positive change, and your insights and opinions matter. Your contributions can help drive positive change in the community, help us to plan for future activity, improve public safety and reduce the severity of incidents we attend.

The Community Ambassador will play a pivotal role in helping to shape the services we provide and assist with building a positive and supportive environment within our communities. You will act as a liaison between the Service and community members, helping to communicate important information, promote community engagement and represent the views of the communities we serve.

If you’re a representative of a local organisation, business, community group, or a member of the community, and would like to assist in helping to shape the future of Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, we would love to have you involved!

The role is on a voluntary basis.   

Commitment required
As much or as little time as you can commit. Ideally, we would like to hear from people who can commit a few hours per quarter (this will fluctuate on a quarterly basis, depending on the task/initiative) working on projects for the Service, attending meetings and events where required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain relationships with community members, local organisations and stakeholders.
  • Assist in designing and implementing initiatives that address community needs and interests.
  • Attend meetings and participate in discussions and consultations on key topics.
  • Provide feedback on campaign and engagement materials and provide valuable input.
