On 8th October 2025, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service was proud to host a delegation of Fire Service officers and training professionals from Australia and the Netherlands as part of an international knowledge-sharing session focused on firefighting in built environments.

The visiting officers delivered insightful presentations on their Tactical Doctrines, offering valuable perspectives shaped by global experience and research. The session explored key operational themes including strategies, tactics, tasks, techniques, and the Dutch Basic Principles of Firefighting, fostering a rich exchange of ideas and best practices.

Assistant Chief Fire Officer Craig Flannery commented;

“As part of our All Wales commitment to evolving operational tactics, it’s been great to host our Dutch and Australian colleagues and to hear first-hand of their approaches to tactical firefighting and the advantages that they bring. As we look beyond our traditional borders to increase our knowledge and understanding, its essential we use the most recent research and evidence-based approaches as part of our firefighting doctrine - doctrine that will not only benefit the communities we serve but will also keep our firefighters safer and more effective”.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service recognise the importance of learning from international best practices to enhance both training and frontline effectiveness. The Service extends its sincere thanks to both groups of delegates for their time and the invaluable insights they shared.
