Incident: Derelict Building Fire in Kidwelly

At 4.30pm on Tuesday, April 30th, the Kidwelly, Pontiets, Llanelli and Port Talbot crews were called to an incident on Station Road in Kidwelly.

At 4.30pm on Tuesday, April 30th, the Kidwelly, Pontiets, Llanelli and Port Talbot crews were called to an incident on Station Road in Kidwelly.



Crews responded to a single-storey, derelict building measuring approximately 15m x 10m that was well alight on arrival.  Crews extinguished the fire by utilising 14 breathing apparatus sets, two hose reel jets, three thermal imaging cameras, two main jets and two short-extension ladders.  This incident required a multi-agency response with Dyfed-Powys Police, the Local Authority, BT and Welsh Water also in attendance.

Crews left the scene at 12.07am on Wednesday, May 1st.

Kidwelly, Pontiets, Llanelli* and Port Talbot* are On-Call Fire Stations, which means their firefighters get notified of an emergency call via a personal pager, which they carry with them when they are on duty.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service is currently recruiting On-Call Firefighters at all our On-Call Fire Stations.

The role of an On-Call Firefighter provides many opportunities for personal and professional development, through training, teamwork, leadership and problem solving.  On-Call Firefighters receive payment for their services, including retainer fees and call-out payments, supplementing their income from other employment.
