At 6.22pm on Saturday, January 24th, the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service crews from Talgarth, Brecon and Crickhowell Fire Stations were called to an incident at Bronllys in Brecon.

The crews responded to a fire within a semi-detached domestic property.  Crews utilised four breathing apparatus sets, two hose reel jets, thermal imaging cameras, one triple extension ladder, one positive pressure ventilation fan and small tools to extinguish the fire.  The fire had spread to a neighbouring property.  After extinguishing the fire, Firefighters entered the property’s loft space to check and eliminate any remaining hot spots.

The fire originated in the property’s kitchen and was caused accidentally by a tumble dryer.

White Goods Safety

Following this fire, MAWWFRS is issuing a reminder on tumble dryer and white goods safety:

  • NEVER leave appliances unattended - don’t turn your tumble dryer on before you leave the house or go to bed.  Tumble dryers contain powerful motors with fast-moving parts that get very hot.
  • Don’t overload your tumble dryer or put in items that have been used to soak up flammable liquids including cooking oil.
  • Don’t ignore warning signs - if you can smell burning or have clothes that feel hotter at the end of the cycle, have your appliance checked by a professional.
