On Friday, 28th November, members of our Business Fire Safety (BFS) team attended Swansea Quadrant along with our latest cohort of Wholetime Firefighter Recruits for a ‘Familiarisation visit’.

The familiarisation visit, formally known as a '7(2)(d) visit' are designed to help firefighters learn about the commercial buildings in their Service area.

Our new Wholetime Recruits and MAWWFRS’s Fire Safety Manager, Darren Rees met with  The Quadrant staff to view firsthand some of the safety features and systems that they can expect to see in a premises of this type.

This visit provided the new Wholetime Recruits with a valuable insight into the range of systems commonly installed in commercial premises. These include Fire Alarm System, Emergency Lighting System, Automatic Openable Vents (AOVs), Voice Alert System and Smoke Curtain System and more.

Fire Safety Manager Darren Rees said:

“Developing a clear understanding and improved knowledge of how these systems operate in buildings such as The Quadrant is essential for firefighters. It ensures they can identify any previously unknown risks and recognise any changes in circumstances or processes since the last visit.”

We would like to extend a big thank you to The Quadrant for providing access to the premises, allowing the new Wholetime recruits to gain practical Business Fire Safety knowledge and information.
