Official Opening of Welshpool Fire Station’s Community Garden

The project, which began in June 2025, has been a collaborative effort between Welshpool Firefighters, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service’s (MAWWFRS) Sustainability Manager, Welsh Government’s Local Places for Nature Programme and Keep Wales Tidy, who have assisted with the organisation, planning and construction of the garden.  The local community has also been an essential part of establishing the garden, with residents of Neuadd Maldwyn, an assisted living development directly opposite the Fire Station, assisting with the planting aspects of the garden.

Designed to be fully accessible, the Welshpool Fire Station Community Garden features raised beds, benches and a greenhouse and aims to provide opportunities for those without outdoor spaces of their own to plant and grow fruit, vegetables and flowers.  Tools, equipment and seeds will be available for community members who wish to get involved and make use of the garden.

Between 10am and 1pm on Thursday, February 12^th, members of the local community are invited to Welshpool Fire Station for a coffee morning to officially open the community garden and to learn more about MAWWFRS’s Community Fire Safety initiatives.
