On Tuesday, April 2nd, the crew at Llanwrtyd Wells Fire Station came together to mark the retirement of Watch Manager Steve Amor after 35 years of dedicated service.
Steve joined what was then the Powys Fire Brigade as a Firefighter in 1988, before being promoted to Lead Firefighter (now Crew Manager) in 1998. In 2011, Steve became the Fire Station’s Watch Manager.
As well as his dedication to his role at Llanwrtyd Wells Fire Station, Steve has also volunteered his time and knowledge to promote fire safety and first aid awareness within the local community through various groups and organisations.
Speaking on Steve’s retirement, Station Commander Simon Prince said:
“Steve, along with his wife Angela who works in Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service’s Community Safety Team, were instrumental in raising funds for the Station’s community co-responder vehicle. This has proven to be an invaluable asset for the local community and Steve’s passion has been exemplary, with nine members of the crew maintaining the skillset required to provide emergency response to life-critical incidents. We are incredibly grateful for their hard work and dedication.”
The crew and everyone at Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service thanks Steve for his invaluable service and contribution and wish him a long and happy retirement.

Could you become an On-Call Firefighter?
Llanwrtyd Wells has an On-Call Fire Station, which means their firefighters get notified of an emergency call via a personal pager, which they carry with them when they are on duty.
Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service is currently recruiting On-Call Firefighters at all our On-Call Fire Stations.
The role of an On-Call Firefighter provides many opportunities for personal and professional development, through training, teamwork, leadership and problem solving. On-Call Firefighters receive payment for their services, including retainer fees and call-out payments, supplementing their income from other employment.
