On Sunday, 13th April, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service Wholetime and On-Call crews of Port Talbot Fire Station held an electric car fire exercise named Exercise Luton at Port Talbot Multi-Storey Car Park.

The exercise was carried out, and aptly named Exercise Luton, due to an accidental electric vehicle fire that took place at a Luton Airport car park last year, March 2024, which spread to multiple vehicles.

This exercise enabled the crews at Port Talbot to practice their electric fire response, providing the opportunity to develop and refine their preparedness for real-life incidents.

The crews worked hard together to secure the scene, simulating hauling hose aloft due to a faulty dry riser and utilising the new electric car fire blanket.

The electric fire blankets are a fairly new addition in Service so crews took the opportunity to simulate the exercise so they could practice the procedures.

Well done to all involved!
