On Wednesday, May 6th, Firefighters from Aberystwyth Fire Station took part in a boat training exercise at Aberystwyth Marina.
Carried out within the marina boatyard and the wider harbour area, the session allowed the crew to further develop a range of essential water‑rescue competencies. Firefighters practised manoeuvring the Service’s rescue boat in confined and open‑water conditions, refining their boat‑handling techniques and improving their ability to operate safely around other marine traffic.
The training also focused on securing the vessel to fixed anchor points, establishing stable working positions and applying safe operating procedures specific to a marine environment. These skills are vital when responding to incidents such as people in difficulty in the water, flooding events, or emergencies involving vessels.
By working in a realistic setting and rehearsing practical scenarios, the exercise strengthened the crew’s confidence, teamwork, and readiness for real‑world water‑based incidents. It forms part of the station’s ongoing commitment to maintaining high levels of preparedness and the development of junior Firefighters to ensure the safety of the local community and visitors to the coastline.
