At 4.33pm on Monday, September 9th, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service (MAWWFRS) crews from Neath and Pontardawe Fire Stations were called to an incident in Bryncoch, Neath.

Crews responded to a small caravan that was completely destroyed by fire, crews utilised one hose reel jet and one thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire.  The fire was likely to have been caused by a spent gas cylinder.  Crews left the scene at 5.12pm.

Camping Safety

Following a series of recent tent and caravan fires, MAWWFRS is issuing a reminder on caravan and camping safety.

Fires in tents and caravans can spread very quickly and can often block the only exit.  It’s vitally important to be especially vigilant to avoid a fire from starting.

Avoiding the use of fuel-burning devices – such as barbecues, camping stoves and heaters – inside a tent and allowing sufficient space between tents and caravans can reduce the risk of fire starting and spreading.  More camping safety advice can be found here.
